| Worship:
A quality worship experience is central to the life of the church.
We at First Baptist have developed a semi-formal style of traditional
worship which helps most people of all ages draw closer to God.
Though the order of service varies each week, we strive to incorporate
quality and sensitivity into everything we do, from the Children's Sermon
to the Choir Anthems.
Education: Sunday School--First Baptist has been blessed with some of the finest Bible Study teachers around. Gifted teachers utilize Sunday School to apply Biblical teaching to everyday life. Sunday School offers real compassion in a small group setting, a warm setting for ministry to others, and is our most effective tool for reaching out to those around us. Bible Drill leads youngsters in grades 4-6 in a systematic program of memorizing Scripture verses and learning key concepts of the Christian life. Disciple Youth University is a Sunday evening discipleship program for students to choose a specific class that best fits their interests and needs in their daily walk with the Lord. From Acteens for girls, to Performing Arts, to a Bible-based study curriculum, every student goes to a class of their choice for six weeks, then after a "mid-term" break, they sign-up for all new classes with different facilitators and materials. Family Ministry: Triple L is the moniker for our Senior Adult ministry. Don't get the idea that this is a "retirement" group. Our Triple L group is one of the most active in our church. Triple L meets once each month for food, fellowship, and fun. They often incorporate guest speakers in their meetings ranging from law enforcement professionals to humorists. Going beyond fellowship, the Triple L group helps in almost every area of church life. The Adult III Sunday School Department ministers faithfully to those who are approaching Triple L. They also meet monthly for fellowship, for ministry, and for prayer. The Adult III folks were instrumental in developing and furnishing our Prayer Room in 1998. Younger Adults in Departments I and II focus on the joys and struggles of completing an education, starting and rearing families, and developing careers. Formal fellowships are sporadic, but every time this group gets together they have a party! From marriage enrichment seminars to ministry to shut-ins, our young adults have a hand in everything. Student Ministry: YouthQuake began in the Spring of 1996 and they have been "shaking the 'boro for Jesus" ever since. Beginning and ending with the Holy Bible as their rule book and the Lord as their guide, First Baptist Students combine their inner walk with their outward commitment to "run the race" that is set before them every day of their lives. Fun and worship have become synonymous in the activities that the students do the the church life of their ministry, either by operating "Thee Bonfire Grill", the Wednesday night family fellowship meal, or by celebrating Jesus with their friends and peers at Youth Praise, a contemporary worship service held on the last Sunday night of each month. Weekly activities include Youth "Power Hour" on Wednesdays, preceded by Games-in-a-Box, where youth get to know each other by playing group building games and quizzes. A staple in the student ministry is the life-changing experience known as Centrifuge. Every year, on the last week of July, our students make their annual voyage to either beautiful Glorieta, NM, or scenic Ridgecrest, NC, for a week of not just camp, but commitment and conversion. Fund-raising for Centrifuge begins in January, and ends in June of each year, with events such as all-church dinners, rummage and bake sales, catering events, youth auctions, and finally the selling of catfish dinners at the annual Catfish Festival, held in Winnsboro every April. Service and missions are not forgotten in our student ministry, here at First Baptist. Whether it's sponsoring a Haitian child through Compassion International, collecting donations for world hunger by serving a soup luncheon, raising funds for International Missions by playing in our annual "Turkey Bowl" flag football game, or just enjoying the company of the widows in our church family by inviting them to a Thanksgiving dinner in their honor, as ambassadors of Christ, the students of First Baptist Church want to carry out their own mission statement which simply says: "To make an impact for Jesus, by going through the hearts and lives of the student in Franklin Parish." Children's Ministry: "Train up a child in the way they should go..." is a belief that our children's ministry carries in it's mission to build and equip the younger generation as it grows up in the life of our church family. Strong programs such as GA's, Royal Ambassadors, Mission Friends, Children's Choir, and Bible Drill give support to a variety of seasonal parties and outings that not only give our children a reason to come to church, but a purpose to invite their classmates and friends. "...and when they are older, they will not depart from it." reconfirms our commitment to teach the Word of God not only in our Sunday School classes, but in our own "mirrors" to their souls. |
